USC Parent and Family Engagement Move-In Day Parent Reception and Letter Writing

Tutor Campus Center (TCC) Ballroom 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM

USC Parent and Family Engagement welcomes you with light refreshments and the opportunity to write a letter to your student which will be delivered to their residence hall the second week of classes. USC Parent and Family Engagement will provide stationery and a standard envelope. Make sure to bring your student’s new USC address! An RSVP is not required but please arrive no later than 2:30 PM as doors will close at 3:00 PM.

 

TCC Plaza Show with Madison Douglas

Madison Douglas is an LA based singer/songwriter originally from West Virginia. She began performing her own songs at hometown talent shows when she was twelve. After much encouragement from her friends and family, she moved to northern Michigan to attend boarding school at Interlochen Arts Academy where she studied songwriting for her junior and senior years. At Interlochen, Douglas refined her sound as a folk/pop artist. After graduation, she relocated to Los Angeles, California to pursue a career in music as well as a degree in performance from the University of Southern California.

LGBTQ+ Welcome Week Parent Workshop

Student Union (STU) 202C 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Being the parent of an LGBTQ+ identified student can be an adjustment that involves feelings of confusion, isolation, and anxiety. You might be worried about your child’s safety, happiness, or future. You might also need support in coming to terms with the changing set of expectations for your child. This workshop is designed to answer questions about the LGBTQ+ community at USC and how you can best support and advocate for your student. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have about LGBTQ+ identities and communities. It will also introduce you to other parents for social support. Join our LGBT Resource Center Director, Kelby Harrison, for a relaxed and informative conversation.

Fraternity & Sorority Parent & Family Reception

Tutor Campus Center (TCC) 330 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM

A parent and family reception for those who have students interested in joining a fraternity or sorority within the five Greek councils at USC or fraternity/sorority alumni/ae from any university. Take a break from Move-In Day to enjoy refreshments while meeting new parents and learning more about fraternities and sororities and parent engagement at USC. An RSVP is not required.

 

Taste of SC

Various USC Hospitality Cafés 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Now that you’ve settled your student into their new “home away from home,” venture out for a tasting tour at the nearby cafés. Hosted by USC Hospitality, the Taste of SC is a great way to see where your student can use their Dining Dollars and enjoy a break from the norm. Pick up a voucher from your residence hall to see the participating locations.

 

First in the Family Reception

Tutor Campus Center (TCC) Ballroom 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

This welcome reception is for parents of *first-generation college students to learn about the college transition, college experience, and to meet other first generation college students and parents. Guests will hear from a diverse panel of faculty, students, and parents and will have the opportunity to ask questions. This event is hosted by the Dornsife Office for Diversity and Strategic Initiatives but is open to all incoming USC first generation college students in all majors. Translators will be available for non-English speaking families. Dinner will be provided. By invitation only. RSVP Required.
* A first-generation college student is defined as a student whose parent(s) have not completed a bachelor’s degree.

Your student’s entry into the Trojan family begins with this annual address to all new students. This traditional event features a welcome from the Vice President of Student Affairs, remarks by President C.L. Max Nikias and greetings from each academic dean. Following Convocation, the Grand Opening of the USC Village will take place. A BBQ luncheon will be served on the Great Lawn beginning at 12:15 p.m.
